The Texas Division U.D.C.® The Texas Division United Daughters of the Confederacy was organized in Victoria, Texas on May 15, 1896 by Mrs. Katie Cabell Currie, assisted by Miss Ruth Phelps and the members of William P. Rogers Chapter 44 and remains one of the largest and strongest Divisions in the General Organization. In 2006, the estimated membership of The Texas Division was over 2,800 and is organized into eighty-six (86) chapters across the Lone Star State. The Texas Division holds an annual Forum Workshop, hosted by Division Officers who teach chapter officers about their respective duties.  The Division consists of ten (10) Districts, geographically divided. Chapters within each District team up to serve their region, allowing a broader level of activities and combined large-scale projects. Each District annually hosts a District Meeting, where chapters merge to plan their annual projects and officers learn the latest duties and updates of their respective office. Districts are active in projects such as educational scholarships, monuments, parades, cemetery preservation, museum work, memorials, heritage activities, patriotic work and V.A. Hospital assistance, battle flag conservation, and benevolent projects.  Texas Chapters are individually structured and no two are alike. Most chapters meet monthly; however, some prefer to meet on Saturdays while others have luncheons or evening meetings on weekdays. Some chapters are extremely hard working while others are more socially oriented. If you don't enjoy the first chapter you visit, consider visiting other chapters until you find the one that meets your needs. The General Organization of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (U.D.C.) is the outgrowth of memorial, monument, home associations and auxiliaries to Camps of Confederate Veterans which were organized following the War Between the States (1861-1865). The U.D.C. is the oldest patriotic organization in America, one dedicated to preserving the true history of the South. Existing as early as 1890, the National Association was formally organized in 1894. The U.D.C. is strictly a non-profit 501(c)(3), non-political, non-racial, non-sectarian organization.
