Guidelines for Students

1.  Length:  600-850 Words.  Dates (November 30, 1864) and names (Robert E. Lee) shall be counted as one word.  Items not counted in word count are:  title, cover sheet information and bibliography/reference.

2.  Title Page:  Title of paper, Name, Grade, School

3. Body:  Typing is preferred, but not required; double-spaced, pages numbered, references noted.  A minimum of four (4) references are needed – no more than two (2) of which may be internet references.  The essay must be in your OWN WORDS.

4.  Essays will be judged on interest, historical accuracy and research.  Grammar, spelling, and legibility (if handwritten) will be considered.

5.  Prizes are awarded for first, second and third place in each grade.

Instructions for Chapter Second Vice Presidents

1.  Please submit 4 copies to Division Second Vice President postmarked by April 1, 2010.

2.  Please include a letter with your chapter name and number, your name and address, and a list of the students for whom you are submitting essays.

Awards (For each grade)
   First place - $30.00
   Second Place - $25.00
   Third Place - $20.00
