Dear Texas Daughters, I am honored and humbled to have been elected as Texas Division President. The theme for my term is Robert E. Lee's familiar quote, "Do your duty in all things." Our ancestors endured untold hardship, suffered defeat, and sometimes death, in the defense of our Southland. It is only fitting, as we approach the 150th anniversary of the War Between the States, that we each step up to personally do our duty to ensure their sacrifice was not in vain. Upcoming communications will focus on ways individual members, chapter officers, committees, district officers, division officers and Board members can contribute to this effort. The President's Project for this term will be to erect a monument in memory of our Confederate ancestors and in recognition of the 150th anniversary. Mr. Ray Richey of The Texas Civil War Museum has graciously given us permission to place this monument on museum grounds. We are in the process of securing bids, but I can truthfully say this will be a "monumental" fundraising effort. I do hope the members and chapters will give freely to this project as it has been some time since a monument was erected in Texas. Your new Board and I look forward to faithfully representing and serving the Daughters of Texas. We welcome your support and prayers. For love of UDC, Jamie Davis |
