The Texas Division, United Daughters of the Confederacy®, would like to thank you for your interest in our scholarship program. We offer a number of scholarships for those who meet the criteria set forth by our Organization. Below you will find links to information explaining our scholarship program.   After you have reviewed this information, you may contact the Education Chairman via email, who will send you an application packet. This packet must be completed and submitted for further consideration by our Organization. The name and address of the Division Education Chairman is also included in the PDF version of the brochure that can be downloaded from this page. GENERAL INFORMATION

The applicant must submit to the Division Education Director prior to February 15 of each year

1. The original and four copies of the Texas Division Scholarship Packet, the official grade transcipt, and letters of endorsement/recommendation.

2. One copy each of the photograph, the checklist, and the Confederate ancestor's proof of service.

3. Five copies of all other documents .

For scholarship re-awards: Each recipient must report by letter, enclosing copy of official grade transcript, to the Division Second Vice President by June 15 each year whether he/she wishes to be considered for re-award for the following semester. Any student not complying with this rule will automatically have his/her scholarship cancelled.

A student who drops out of school shall forfeit his/her scholarship. The institution shall return any unused balance to the Texas Division, United Daughters of the Confederacy®.

Upon approval of a recipient, the Second Vice President will send notification to the applicant and to his/her college or university. Said notification to the college or university will be sent in August and will include one check (made payable to the college or university) containing the scholarship amount for the entire academic year.

A student who wishes to transfer to another institution must contact the Division Second Vice President to ensure continuation of his/her scholarship.

TENURE

Undergraduate scholarships are available for a maximum of four years or until the student completes the course in under four years or fails to make a minimum 3.0 grade point average (GPA). Students must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and carry a minimum of 12 hours each semester.

CANDIDATES

Each Chapter may submit any number of candidates for scholarships; each candidate will be considered for any scholarship for which he/she is determined to be eligible.  Two members of the same family may not hold scholarships simultaneously.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Applicants must be lineal or collateral descendants of a worthy Confederate. An applicant who is a collateral descendant must be a member of the UDC or CofC.

2. The President and 2nd Vice-President of the sponsoring UDC Chapter must sign the sign the application.

3. Applicants must make application on the Texas Division official scholarship form. Final approval of an application shall be made by the Texas Division Second Vice-President (Chairman of Education).

4. The applicant must submit all requested information.

5. Applicants must use full names (no nicknames).

MATERIALS REQUIRED

The following materials are required. Incomplete applications will be given no consideration by the General Education Committee. Application and documentation will be returned only if sufficient postage is included.

1. Wallet-sized photograph of head and shoulders to be used in the UDC Magazine for General Scholarship winners.

2. Scholarship Application Checklist

3. Copy of Confederate ancestor's proof of service - may be procured from Broadfoot Publishing Company, 1907 Buena Vista Circle, Wilmington, NC 28411; the archives of Confederate records in the various states; the National Archives and Records Services, Washington, DC 20408; or UDC Business Office, Memorial Building, 328 North Boulevard, Richmond, VA 23220-4057. Requests made to the Business Office must be accompanied by a check ($15.00 members/prospectives; $25.00 non-members; $6.00 postage/handling) and a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

5. Copy of applicant's birth certificate

6. Lineage Form -- with line of descent from Confederate ancestor, linking applicant to ancestor by generations

7. Letter of endorsement from sponsoring UDC Chapter.  Applicants needing referral to a local UDC Chapter for sponsorship should contact the Division Second Vice President.

8. Letter of recommendation from recent teacher/counselor with objective evaluation of applicant

9. Financial Report Form - Please complete the financial report form enclosed with the application. This form requests an estimation of the applicant’s expenses including tuition, room & board, lodging and other expenses per semester.

10. Official transcript of grades of previous year or semester from the school attended including PSAT and SAT scores if available

11. Letter from applicant (maximum 300 words) pledging to make the best possible use of the opportunity offered through the scholarship and outlining goals and plans for obtaining them. In this letter, it is suggested the student evaluate the significance of a Southern heritage in today's world.

Endowed Scholarship for a Junior or Senior student.  Non-transferable.

University of Texas at Austin Scholarship:  $800* Endowed Scholarship to be awarded to a Junior, Senior or Graduate student.  Non-transferable.

University of Texas at Austin Scholarship:  $800* Endowed Scholarship to be awarded to a student in any class.  Non-transferable.

University of Texas at Austin Scholarship: $800* Endowed Scholarship to be awarded to a student in any class.  Non-transferable.

Kathryn Noble Wilcox Scholarship: $500.00 Gift Scholarship To be used in any accredited college or university in Texas

Audie Murphy Scholarship: $500.00 Gift Scholarship to be used in any accredited college or university in Texas

Ralph Widener, Sr. Scholarship: $500.00 Gift Scholarship to be used in any accredited college or university in Texas

Ralph W. Widener Scholarship: $500.00 Gift Scholarship To be used in any accredited college or university in Texas

Barthold Scholarship: $500.00 Gift Scholarship To be used in any accredited college or university in Texas (Transferable).

Bounds-Stone Scholarship: $500.00 Gift Scholarship To be used in any accredited college or university in Texas

Johnnie May Myers Scholarship: $500.00 Gift Scholarship To be used in any accredited college or university in Texas
